History
Oak Lawn has a long, rich history that dates back to the mid-1800s. Originally settled by German immigrants, this area was first known as Hord's Ridge and consisted of farmland and pioneer homesteads. In 1890, it was renamed Oak Lawn after the numerous oak trees scattered throughout the area. The nearby city of Dallas grew rapidly throughout the early 20th century, eventually engulfing Oak Lawn in its urban sprawl.
